Negril or Negrillo

Most popular beach in Negril

Negril is a tiny but very popular beach resort town situated in Jamaica in the Caribbean Islands. The untouched and untamed beaches of Negril have been rated as the top ten beaches of the world for many years by various travel magazines. The coast on the West contains the supreme beaches of the island stretching for about 7 kilometres along the sandbar. Negril is hence commonly famous among the tourists as the ‘7- Mile Beach’. I went to Negril, Jamaica for my first wedding anniversary and the experience is simply unforgettable. We stayed at the north side of the 7 mile long beach which houses to various ‘all inclusive resorts’. There are more family run, small hotels in the south side of the beach. Negril caters to all sorts of holidays suiting the pockets and requirements of everyone.

Tourists who like to get active on holiday can indulge themselves in various recreational events and activities in Negril. Those who like camping and hiking can visit the MayField Falls situated on a five acre land close to Negril. It is a very popular spot for picnicking, cliff jumping, and cave diving. Visitors looking for relaxation can enjoy and relax in the natural Jacuzzis along with a massage. Wildlife lovers can visit the 700 acre property called Country Western located in Westmoreland and explore the natural habitats of various animals, birds, sand crabs and other Jamaican wildlife. The forests consist of the mangroves, ackee trees and pimento plantation. The view from inland is simply amazing as you head to the Caribbean Sea. You can relax and take in the splendid beauty either by swimming in the sea among the waves or taking a ride on the friendly horses.

Most beautiful place to visit in Negril

Nature lovers enjoy visiting Jamaica Whitewater, which is situated in a small town of Friendship about quarter to an hour from Negril. There is a three to four hours guided tour that takes tourists down to the marvelous Cabarita River. This river is known for its spring fed water twisting and winding through some of the most fabulous countryside of Jamaica. One of my favourite places to visit was the Rick’s Café which is highly recommended and not to be missed located at West End. Party lovers would simply love this place. The café is situated on a cliff from where the local divers try to compete with each other by jumping from 10 metre or higher tall cliffs. I myself geared up my courage and jumped from the 10 metre tall cliff. The experience was simply thrilling but I don’t think I would be able to do it again! I certainly would remember my jump all my life and cherish it. There is loud music playing throughout the café outdoors and you can even sit and enjoy your meal at tables set in the middle of sand. The atmosphere at Rick’s is euphoric and fun loving along with a breath taking view of the sunset. Other places to enjoy amazing view of sunset are Pirate’s Cave and The Sands.

Whether on a Beach or Disc enjoy best Jamaican music

Other places for party include the Jungle disco which is a well known happening disc in Negril known for its superb DJ and music. At peak season, celebrities from Miami and New York can often be spotted here. The best night to visit is Thursday night when the entry for women is free before midnight and Saturday. To enjoy the local Jamaican music MXIII is a good place to visit where you can enjoy the reggae concerts and live performances every night in high season by some local talents. To enjoy melodious music of Jamaica on the beach, you can visit Bourbon Beach hosting big name acts and live reggae performances.  There are also a number of attractions in and around Negril which are worth visiting. The food and lodging in Jamaica is another thing to enjoy. The ‘Jerk seasoning’ is renowned all over the globe for its taste and flavour. I simply loved the jerk chicken and can still savor its taste. We stayed in an all inclusive resort and this was the first time we opted for such a stay. The all inclusive resorts are the holiday resorts where the food, events, activities and water sports are included with your stay. So you can practically travel without a wallet! There are unlimited alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and snacks available throughout the day. The resort where I stayed had five different cuisine restaurants that is, Japanese, French, Jamaica, Italian and Continental. We can have dinner any number of times at any of the above restaurants. The Buffet breakfast and lunch offer a sumptuous variety. There is also entertainment and events within the resort everyday for the customers to enjoy their stay. I even did rock painting with my husband which was a very relaxing experience again. There is a long beach and you can enjoy lazing on the beach with your book or take a dip. The water sports like sailing, water skiing, snorkeling, kayaking etc. are all included in the stay. There are free lawn tennis lessons too.  There are four different bars along with one situated on the beach to supply unlimited drinks. The staffs are equally friendly and pleasing. Tipping however is not allowed to any staff members.

One of the worlds best wedding venues

The best of all was that we renewed our wedding vows and tried Christian wedding. The hotel staff arranged a gazebo overlooking the ocean on three sides and a priest to get us remarried. There was bouquet, champagne and wedding cake along with Bob Marley romantic music for our first wedding dance. They even provided us with a marriage certificate stating that we renewed our vows their and all within the package. I would definitely recommend Negril to everyone and especially to honeymooners and couples planning a romantic holiday. The place is equally beautiful and fun loving for families and kids who just need more than a dip in the water.

Enjoy wildlife in Kisumu

Kisumu is a port city situated in western Kenya and sits on the edge of Lake Victoria it also is the third largest and the most important city in western Kenya, thus earning itself the title as the” Millennium City” . Kisumu as a city has constantly been described as languid, easy-going and friendly. Kisumu was a majestic colonial port that connected Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in the 1900’s. It remained in absolute isolation from the rest of the country until the railway lines were completed in 1903.

Large number of ecosystems come together to create this supernatural expanse of Kenya. Calm lolling hills blanketed by tea plantations; serene lakes that sustain rare populations of birdlife and fish; grasslands that are merely broken by pockets of thickly forested woodlands and damp swamps, each are distinctive and different from the last. This is a description of Western Kenya, an illustration of rich culture and fertile lands. The region has become popular Kenya safari destination, particularly due to its association with US President Barack Obama whose father was born in Kogelo, Kisumu.  Attractions in Kisumu comprise of the splendid Lake Victoria and the Kisumu Museum. Lake Victoria is the world’s second biggest freshwater lake and is shared by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. It remained unheard of to most of the western world until the 19th century. Lake Victoria has been the habitat to about 320 species of fish including the radiantly colored cichlids

Lake Victoria is the world’s second biggest freshwater lake

Lake Victoria boat excursion is a thrilling experience, after boarding the boat at Kiboko bay or Dunga Beach it rides you around the gulf to Hippo Point, Tilapia beach then to Kisumu beach resort. The Kisumu  Museum is very easy to get around on foot in Kisumu. The Kisumu Museum has an astonishingly wide and well displayed collection of historical and ethnographic artifacts. It has one single main gallery that is surrounded by a garden full of labeled native plants. Placed off Kisumu Bondo Road towards Bondo is “Kit Mikaye” it is said to be the rock where Mikaye (literally means, “The first wife”), the mother of the Luo tribe, protected herself after a long voyage down the Nile. The gigantic columns of Kit Mikaye in Seme are towers of boulders piled together into gravity defying columns. There are many stunning rock formations which abound with myths and mythologies in western tourist circuit. In the past, only men were allowed near the rocks, but visitors (male/female) are welcomed these days. The site is supervised by the Kit Mikaye Rock Development Group which has built a house where visitors can get refreshments while on a tour.

Impala Park has been a game sanctuary and serves as an animal orphanage and home to the rare Sitatunga antelope. The Kisumu Impala Wildlife Sanctuary serves as a protected grazing ground for hippopotamus from the lakes. Stretching over an area of less than 1sq km, this wildlife sanctuary acts a holding point for animals like leopards, baboons, hyenas and can be seen within a close range.
