Kornik, a little town, lies in Wielkopolska region of southwest Poznan in Poland. The wonderful city is just only 35 kilometers away from Poznan. Though the “Kornik” literally means chicken coop though it’s nothing like a chicken coop maybe because of its size city got this name. Kornik, the wooded area, is perfect pick for recreation and tourism as it is situated on Warta River. To reach Kornik, the easiest and comfy means of transportation is to catch the bus from Poznan. In the castle, there is a museum in which furniture of different styles, arms, armours, rare paintings, sculptors and lots more are displayed for the visitors.
An interesting myth relevant to Kornik Castle is the main reason for alluring tourists from all over the world towards Poland. The castle was residence for the white lady named Teofila Działyńska Szołdrska-Potulicka for many years and now her ghost comes to haunt the castle every night. The castle also serves as Polish Academy of Sciences as it treasures lots of books and manuscripts by Juliusz Słowacki and Adam Mickiewicz. This library was also looted by Germans Nazis during World War II. It has more than 30,000 books over 150 years old, library also forms a part of National Library of Poland.
Kornik is moving at a rapid pace towards tourism as the city besides the castle also had a Park named Arboretum. This park lies just behind the Kornik Castle. The park is famous for its stunning picturesque, rare flowers, amazing trees, burgeoning bushes, tranquil meadows and also the willow with pears. It’s quite amazing to see 3000 species of shrubs and trees at one place – Arboretum Park in Kornik. Most of them are imported from various corners of the world. Tourists must also see Town Hall, Kornik Library (contains about 3,20,000 volumes) and the most enchanting one – Boat Trip on the Kornik lake flowing just attached to the Kornik Castle. After the tour of the castle, visitors can enjoy boat ride which is only 5 minutes from the castle.
