North-east part of India is blessed with numerous and popular wildlife sanctuaries and Orang National Park is also one of them. Lying on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, Orang National Park covers an area of 72 sq.kms. It is just located 32 kms from Tezpur and about 140 kms far from Guwahati. The park is famous for its stunning picturesque and has a good grab of visitors from all over the world. Just because of it’s spellbind and captivating beauty, it is worldwide famous as “Mini Kaziranga”. In 1985, the park was established as a sanctuary and later on, in 1999, it was declared as a National Park. Best time to visit Orang National Park is between November and March. To reach this park is not a problem at all as all the three routes work for it. Like, if you go for air travel, then nearest airport is Saloni, for rail route, the nearest railway station is Saloni and for road route, you will find lots of buses plying regularly from Tezpur. Basically, the park faces typical subtropical monsoon climate and the entire park is almost a flat land.

The Fauna of Orang National Park provides a great home to animals. Indian one-horned Rhinoceros is the prime attraction of the park. Tigers, in bulk, can also be seen here in this park. The park also works as a shelter for other wildlife also like Hog deer, wild pig, civet cat, elephants, Gangetic dolphin, porcupine, leopards, Asiatic elephant, the royal Bengal tiger, wild boar, hare and 50 species of fish can also be witnessed here. Birdlife of Orang National Park is very interesting. The main habitat of bird species in the park is the Bengal florican. These birds are about 30-40 in this park. Other wonderful bird species that can be spotted in this park are Black-necked Stork, greater adjutant Stork, Spot-billed Pelican, Lesser adjutant, wooly-necked Stork, Mallard, Gadwall, Pintail, Rudy Shelduck, and myriad of other small grassland birds. Migratory birds like the milky white Pelicans from America also plays great role in attracting tourists.

Bird watchers paradise in Orang National Park

Reptiles section of Orang National Park is amazing. There are number of species of reptiles in this park. The main among the reptiles are the turtles like kachuga tecta, Lissemys punctata, etc. and among the snakes, python and cobra. Flora of Orang National Park is supposed to be very significant and rich. The park is full of natural forest species, non-aquatic grassland species and aquatic grasslands too. Among the forest species, the major ones are Dalbergia Sisoo, Sterculia villosa, Bombax Ceiba, etc. The non-aquatic species are Arundo donax, Saccarum spp., Imperata cylindrical and so on. Among the aquatic grasslands, flora enthusiast can find here Ipomea reptans, Enhydra Flushians, Wichornia spp., Nymphia spp., etc. Other most enthralling activity to capture your heart in this Orang National Park is Elephant ride. Elephant ride is the best option to explore the entire park as it feels very interesting to see the wildlife in open just sitting on the back of elephants.
