Chiriquí National Marine Park

On the western coast of Panama is located the Chiriquí province which after Panama Province, is the second most developed province. Bordered by Costa Rica, Bocas Del Toro, Ngobe-bugle, Veraguas and Pacific Ocean, the capital of Chiriquí is David. Chiriquí was a province of indigenous tribes collectively called Guaymies, till the Spaniards arrived there. From ideal beaches and highlands to excellent hiking, kayaking, birding and shopping, Chiriquí Province provides its visitors with many treasures. Most importantly the province provides excellent facilities to retire and settle there.

The capital city of The Chiriquí Province, David is a great place to stay and shop at. Another must see place while Chiriquí Province is Boquete. Lying at the base of the Volcan Baru an extinct volcano, Boquete is a mountain valley full of beautiful flowers. The place offers great hiking opportunities and a spectacular view of coffee farms, panoramic mountains and waterfalls.  Located on the Pacific coast is the Chiriquí National Marine Park, which is a collection of 25 islands and 19 coral reefs and the terrestrial and marine life that inhabits this park is spectacularly diverse. This park was created in 1994 and several of the islands that constitute it are uninhabited. Preserving the ecosystems and maintaining the diverse flora and fauna of the region are the main functions of this park.  The islands are covered with forests and surrounded by delicate coconut palms. Rocky outcrops spread across the gulf are a significant feature along with marine meadows.

The white sands, coral reefs and large mangrove swamps are fast turning this park into a favorite spot with travelers. The closest town to it is Bocha Chica and it is only a little distance away from Boquete. Bocha Chica is a quiet fishing village-town that provides humble accommodations for the visitor to the Chiriquí National Marine Park. The largest island that constitutes the park is Parida and a fun activity to indulge in and explore the park is island hopping. Soak in the sun, discover the diverse marine life, go deep sea diving, scuba diving, snorkeling or sport fishing and make your trip a memorable one. Isla Paridita, a private island on the National Marine Park is one of the few places that provide accommodations on the park. This largely unspoiled island can easily be reached by boat from the town of Bocha Chica.

Other than a rich marine life there are a large variety of birds that would delight bird watchers. The marine life includes schools of Manta Rays, Dolphins, hammerhead sharks and humpback whales. With the help of experienced guides and anglers you can get the best fishing experience of your life at the Chiriquí National Marine Park. In case you are snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts then book a boat tour in advance in order to get to the more visible part of the shore. The closest airport is at David, the capital of the Chiriquí Province. There are bus services from David to the town of Bocha Chica which is the gateway to the park. It would be advisable to arrange for accommodations before hand at Bocha Chica.
